Oxytocin in the News PDF Print E-mail

Dr Paul Zak Most of you have heard me going on and on about the power of oxytocin in healing. As you might recall oxytocin is the "love hormone" but more importantly it is also referred to as the "anti-stress" hormone.

This morning I was sitting outside by the pool enjoying a cool breeze and my morning cup a joe, reading a business magazine called Fast Company. Imagine my surprise when I turn the page after reading an article about how Apple does business to find a huge article entitled OXYTOCIN. Essentially it is detailing some of the work of a scientist by the name of Dr. Paul Zak from Claremore Graduate University. He has also been coined "Dr. Love" based on his research on how oxytocin influences economic decisions. Some very exciting research such as:

The presence of oxytocin influences charitable giving by as much as 33%! (wouldn’t we like our kids to be more generous?)

Social networking, texting, on-line interactive gaming shows a remarkable spiking in oxytocin after just 10 minutes and a reduction in cortisol, the primary stress hormone (maybe video games do have some calming value).

brainAs well as that the brain may actually respond to on-line relationship activities in the same manner that it perceives offline in person relationships! (this has a double edge to it as our kids can be easily seduced online).

What’s behind our compulsive Facebook and Twitter addictions? According to neuroeconomist Paul Zak, the answer lies in oxytocin—the generosity-trust chemical in our brain. His study results, about financial relationships and social media, are a wake-up call for any company that wants to build a devoted following, online or off.

By the way, did we mention we are now using Twitter and Facebook to share information with our network?

Powerful stuff. I truly believe that oxytocin is going to change the way in which we parent, teach, and treat our children. When you really understand oxytocin it's almost impossible not to change. And like the National Enquirer says, "You read it here first!"

Recently I held a webinar for the network entitled: The Power of Oytocin with RAD and ODD Children.

It is available on the members only site of the Inner Circle. If you are an Inner Circle member just use your username and password and check it out. Actually there are two on oxytocin, another I did earlier this year. For those of you who are not part of this, they eventually will be available for view on BryanPostU.
