Biographical Statement
Deborah Chelette-Wilson, MHR, NCC,  is Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice in the piney woods of Northeast Texas.  She is co-founder of Caring for Kids, a Prevention/Intervention Program through the North East Texas Child Advocacy Center in Winnsboro, Texas.  The program provides ongoing support groups, and Parent education.  She authored the curriculum  Practical Care Giving for Parents  which continues to be used today.  She has written Shrinking Troubles and Growing Stronger, a children’s book and companion workbook designed to empower boys and girls to make positive changes in their behavior as well as other stories and articles.  Her novel, Releasing Her Voice  is a story about woman’s quest to integrate and heal multiple childhood traumas, including incest.  Her most recent book, Woman on the Edge: A Journey Toward Soul-fulness: A personal journey of hope and how one can reclaim their soul-full power and create a pathway to freedom.  This inspiring story offers readers an in depth look into how to unlock the possibilities of wholeness, self-care and partnership living that reside within the Soul of us all, is available on her website as an E-Book.

She has given presentations and workshops on Trauma, Stress, Child Abuse and Managing Children’s Behavior Problems since 1991.  She specializes in trauma and loss and has worked in the ‘trenches’ with children and families in crisis for over 20 years.

She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas and a member of the American Counseling Association and The Northeast Texas Counseling Association.   Her web site is www.integratingtrauma.com.  In 2001 she completed Certification as a Trauma and Loss Specialist and School Specialist from The National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan.  In 2004 she completed certification for Trauma and Loss Supervisor, which included completing a Case Study, also from the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children. She graduated from The University of Oklahoma at Norman, Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies in 1987 and a Master’s in Human Relations with an emphasis in Counseling in 1992.  She has completed multiple trainings including 2 online courses from Dr. Bruce Perry, a 2 day professional observation program at Timberlawn Hospital in Dallas, Texas at Dr. Colin Ross’s Adult Inpatient Trauma Program and author of the book  The Trauma Model.  She has studied Dr. Bruce Lipton’s work on The Biology of Belief, The Biology of Perception, and Nature, Nurture and the Power of Love, A guide to conscious parenting.

Since 2004, she has worked with Bryan Post. Her participation in multiple therapist, parent and family camps has challenged her personally and professionally.  Out of the experience of shifting her own paradigm, she now believes that we need to incorporate the gifts from the fields of neuroscience and  apply this growing body of knowledge to the fields of counseling, psychology, and psychiatry as well as integrate this knowledge into the fabric of education, health and social services, medicine, politics, and the justice system. She has incorporated the stress model and family centered therapy into her private practice with foster parents, adoptive parents, children and adults with attachment issues.  Using this new understanding and experiential processes her work is focused on helping parents be the agents of change for their children by first understanding themselves.  From a shift within they can connect with their children’s deep hurts and create a healing environment.

Deborah is endorsed as a Certified POST Family-Centered Regulatory Attachment Therapist: Level III, she is also the Master Instructor and POST Parenting Camp Representative for Texas.
