Post Institute - A love based family-centered approach for helping children with challenging behaviors

POST Vibe FREE Newsletter

August 15, 2010 - Volume 2010 Issue 5

Dear %$firstname$%,

Always make new mistakesBryan Post, One of America’s Foremost Child Behavior Experts While preparing this edition of the Post Vibe, I came across a blog by our publisher friend Carrie Kitze (EMK Press) who posed a great question "How often as parents do we do the same thing expecting different results?" I have been quoting Bishop T.D. Jakes for a long time, "If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always be where you’ve already been". (with apologies to Zig Ziglar who said something similar a way long time ago). Carrie talks about the same mistakes we parents make, and how they sometimes look a lot like the mistakes our parents made.

She went on to say, "Where I get stuck in the mistake cycle is that this parenting thing is all about me, right? What kind of parent do I look like on the outside to other people when my kids are acting out? Why am I the one who has to deal with this tough stuff and not my husband?" Me, Me, Me. And we thought parenting is about the children — There is hope though, as Carrie says, Always Make New Mistakes! But hey, why listen to me rambling on about her wonderful article" go there yourself, read the whole thing, then you can leave her a comment and tell her what you think.

Introducing Rocket Phonics

Help for international students, Home School Educators (home school parents) and special needs children is on the way. We have partnered up with Dr. Guffanti (Two times Inner Circle Guest www.drdsylexic.com, www.rocketphonics.com, www.adhdconfessions.com) to offer his ground breaking program Rocket Phonics as an aid for helping kids to read better, faster while spending quality time with their parents – and have more fun doing it. How's this for exciting - "There isn't a better phonics program around than Dr. Guffanti's Rocket Phonics. Follow these simple exercises and you will watch a miracle unfold before your eyes."-- John Taylor Gatto, Best Selling Author and New York State Teacher of the Year and "Four times better than Hooked on Phonics" (according to an independent study by UCLA). This is a great program for home educators and as a help for internationally adopted kids who need to catch up fast.

Dr. Guffanti recalls how Rocket Phonics was conceived. "When my daughter was 5 she told her mother, "No thank you, Mommy, I'm not going to learn to read." I knew I would lose any fight I had with my daughter so I decided to teach her stuffed animals to read. By third grade she was reading at 12th grade level. A few years later my wife suggested that I put Rocket Phonics into a book. We had UCLA analyze Rocket Phonics against any program a credentialed teacher thought might beat it. Our students gained nearly four times the reading skill of the controls. Since then we have seen the same results with student after student. Rocket Phonics will take your five year old to fifth grade level in two years. (It works even faster with children that have failed on other programs.) Enjoy!"

Stephen GuffantiRocket Phonics is a research-based, scientifically proven method of teaching reading. Hands down the best phonics program available today, it's fast, fun, easy-to-use, over three times as effective, and half the cost of competing programs. Rocket Phonics is so effective your child could be reading by the end of the very first lesson! To read more about this amazing tool or to purchase, click here. And the "even better news? It comes with a 90 day guarantee by Dr. Guffanti and comes with 3 Bonuses. We will also be carrying two of Dr. Guffanti’s books and his CD interview with Bryan.

Oxytocin in the News

by bryanpost

Most of you have heard me going on and on about the power of oxytocin in healing. As you might recall oxytocin is the "love hormone" but more importantly it is also referred to as the "anti-stress" hormone.

This morning I was sitting outside by the pool enjoying a cool breeze and my morning cup a joe, reading a business magazine called Fast Company. Imagine my surprise when I turn the page after reading an article about how Apple does business to find a huge article entitled OXYTOCIN. Essentially it is detailing some of the work of a scientist by the name of Dr. Paul Zak from Claremore Graduate University. He has also been coined "Dr. Love" based on his research on how oxytocin influences economic decisions. Some very exciting research such as:

Learn Parenting via Social Media for FREE!

by davidstrainick

Did you know that there are over 500 million active users on Facebook, and that more than 50% of those people log in to Facebook daily and they spend close to 500 billion minutes per month interacting with each other and absorbing/sharing content? Twitter now has over 124 million visitors with that number expected to double by next year. And what about YouTube? Huge! Recent stats show that less than 10% of all the videos on youtube.com get more than 1,500 views. Numbers are sketchy, but a recent week of activity shows that roughly 2,520,000 videos are uploaded weekly. Our own, 6 Minutes That Can Change Your Life video with Bryan Post has 11,138 views putting this one video alone in the top 10% of all youtube.com videos.

How many of you have Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn accounts or blogs?

Special Back to School Supplement: Every Child Can Succeed

by bryanpost

Back to school success means less STRESS for children, parents, and teachers!

Education guru Mel Levine states, "Every child can succeed given the right educational environment and opportunities." If you are a parent of a child who has challenges in the classroom, or an educator of such a child, the following thoughts, based on fifteen years of working with children of all makeup and challenge level, may be very beneficial in helping you to achieve the educational breakthrough with your child that you have been seeking. I encourage you to read these thoughts with the same amount of thoughtfulness that has gone into sharing them with you.

The Great Behavior Breakdown Book Exceeds Expectations--Thwarts Disaster, and Kudos for Post’s Social Media efforts

Dear Bryan,

I take in foster/adopt children. I currently have 3 in guardianship, 2 in foster (process of adopting), and one niece. I have another who is 19 and out on his own. I am writing in regards to your book: The Great Behavior Breakdown.  The children I am currently in process of adopting have had a VERY traumatic life and it’s been ongoing (according to the social worker).

The two children have been placed in 11 different homes,  2 were in process of adopting them. However the boy, 9, is a handfull. He has a great amount of behavior issues in all ranges including verbal assault, physical assault, sexual issues and more. His sister has some minor issues, but is easy to handle. They both are very loving kids.

From the Post Office: What is POST All About Anyway and the Temple Grandin Story: the Stress Model in Action!

by daviddurovy

David Durovy, From the Post Office In trying to find just what groups do we serve, it is becoming clear that a place where we fit the best is in the Post Adoption Support Services area (www.postadoptionsupportservices.com). In fact, we are quickly becoming a Premier Post Adoption Support Services Resource provider as we continue to expand our reach to agencies, organizations, schools, social services departments, professionals as well as parents. We want to offer the world elements, strategies, tools, information and models that can further expand our ability to experience and hunger for unconditional love. We hope to show that not only is this possible, but might even be what life is all about – and to do what we can to eliminate fear and bring peace on earth and goodwill toward all.

David Durovy, From the Post OfficeTo do this, we need you to help point out resources that we can offer to our network and to the world. Stuff that not only works, but helps bring peace, harmony, happiness, joy, freedom and more love to our parents and professionals. We need stories of heroism, of failure, of everyday stuff that will encourage, inspire and motivate each and every parent struggling with a child who needs love – “especially when he or she misbehaves, because that is when they need it the most” (thank Pat O’Brien for that gem).
